Oceanic Tides

Tidal Amplitude | High and Low Tide Times | Surge Amplitude

Tidal Amplitude

Gives the tidal amplitude in centimeters. This parameter includes the expected tide as well as the Surge Amplitude from weather influences on the seawater level.

tidal_amplitude:<unit>

Available units: cm, in

Examples

High and Low Tide Times

The high and low tide times are available in the following units: sql, dn

sql will return a time stamp according to the ISO-86011 format (YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ).

dn refers to the date number. The date number represents the whole and fractional number of days from 1-Jan-0000 to a specific date and is equivalent to the serial date number used in Matlab.

first_high_tide:<unit>

Gives the time of the first high tide of a given day.

second_high_tide:<unit>

Gives the time of the second high tide of a given day.

first_low_tide:<unit>

Gives the time of the first low tide of a given day.

second_low_tide:<unit>

Gives the time of the second low tide of a given day.

Examples

Surge Amplitude

surge_amplitude:<unit>

Available units: cm, in

The surge amplitude gives information about the storm related abnormal rise in seawater level compared to the usual expected tide. The surge is influenced by the orientation of the coast line with the storm track, the size and intensity of the storm and the local bathymetry.
